Snom M3 DECT solution for WARP appliance
As I described in my previous blog, I am becoming the measuring stick at PIKA to gauge how easy a product is to use/setup. Last week I fired up a WARP appliance and configured a basic PBX solution using a “PIKAnized” version of the Asterisk Gui. If you recall, I reported the experience a success. This week, our friends at Snom were kind enough to send us a Snom M3 VoIP wireless DECT phone so we could gain some experience with it. Our interest was driven by feedback from our customers that a DECT module would be a nice to have feature for WARP. I’m thinking, with solutions like the M3 from Snom, this area is pretty well covered. In simple terms, I describe the M3 as a SIP to DECT gateway. From the Asterisk perspective, this endpoint looks just like a SIP phone and configuring it is not unlike the process to configure a regular Snom phone. I personally had no difficulty at all in getting this working with my simple PBX solution. And it’s useful too! its a great option for those in your office that are not tied to a desk such as warehouse personnel, or developers in the lab. Without getting into a detailed review (you can see detailed reviews here and here) I can say that WARP+Asterisk and the Snom M3 play really nice together and if you need mobility for your solution you should give this combination a closer look.
For those of you who do not run Asterisk on WARP we’ll be taking a closer look at the M3 in the near future to ensure interoperability with our own SIP stack.

Or a nurse call system!
