There was recently a patch to PADS, now up to version 2.0.5.8, that fixes an issue with using BRI lines to call cell phones released by PIKA. The patch is also available on this page. A new version of PADS means it is time for me to release a snapshot of FreePBX on PADS.
One of the things we often deal with in supporting the WARP is people having problems compiling PADS. One of the issues is that it seems that a lot of Linux distros these days do not always install the development tools we require to compile PADS out of the box. They are all available to install from online repositories or even the install disk itself, they are just not selected by default.
The fact that the compile fails due to a missing tool is not always obvious either. So what can we do to help these people. Wouldn’t it be great if there was a way to ensure the tools they needed were installed. Well I found one way.
During my weekly browsing of Linux related web sites, I cam across an article on the Revisor project from Fedora Linux. The Revisor program allows you to create your own Live CD/DVD image. I thought well great, I’ll just create my own live CD/DVD image that includes all of the tools I know we need to compile PADS for the WARP appliance. Well after a few missteps on my part and reading of documentation I created my own live DVD image that you can stick into a computer, boot from and compile PADS with (assuming you have a USB key or similar to store your work on). You can also use the live DVD to install Fedora on your computer.
This is a stock Fedora Live KDE image with several development tools added to the image. There was nothing proprietary added. All files come from the Fedora repositories. I hope this works as well for you as it did for me. A big thank you goes out to the developers of Fedora and their Revisor tool. Keep up the great work guys.
Better late than never comes to mind when announcing that I have finally provided you folks with a forum you can call your own. In hindsight, this should have been done from the very beginning, but hey…I’m learning as I go here. My hope is that this forum will help us build a stronger and increasingly interactive group going forward.
It has been a while, so it is time for a new release of FreePBX for the PIKA WARP. There have been a lot of things added since the last release found here. This release works much better with BRI and FXO lines due to an upadte to the base version of PADS used. Lots of new goodies in freePBX as well. Read on for more details …
