News from Astricon Phoenix 2008

First of all I would like to say that the folks at Digium should be proud of pulling off what some/most/all? believe was the best Astricon yet.  Congrats!
 
From a PIKA perspective, it was very cool to see the adoption our WARP appliance has been able to obtain in just a few short months.  Specifically, you could find WARP in the FreePBX booth demonstrating their recently ported FreePBX GUI.  Digital Opsis was there, demonstrating their e-IPBX software running on WARP.  Intuitive Voice was once again there supporting the WARP initiative, and last but not least, PIKA was there pitching WARP as a development environment for all things Asterisks. How can I productize the Pika appliance as phone system?

More importantly – how can I make money with this device as a phone system?  Certainly if I was a value add reseller (VAR) I could work with one of Pika’s partners to re-brand their phone system solution built on the Pika appliance and sell it as my own.  But what if I wanted to start from scratch to create my own unique phone system solution?  In general, what work would I have to do?

My dialing application

For a long time now I have thought about putting my telephony knowledge to good use to help a friend of mine organize his baseball team.  One of his main beefs has been having to phone all the players on the team each time the schedule changes last minute or a game is rained out.  Email would be the obvious choice but sometimes the messages are urgent and can’t sit in a mailbox.  He also tells me some of his players are not “connected” yet.  Does that still exist in the world today??

 

So I embark on creating a solution.  What did it finally look like?
